I was having a particularly challenging morning today and it was triggered by the news that I read on the internet. I was just browsing my emails and not guarding my sensitivity level because it was early and the brazen and aggressive news hit me smack dab in my heart and my head. I immediately felt restless and nervous about what is happening to the our beautiful planet, our country and the many innocent souls who are the hardest hit by greed and ignorance.
When circumstances, people or situations hit us over the head because we were caught off guard, it is very useful to have a few time tested tools available to apply to our current mind set or we will be drawn into the energy, emotional drama or the dominant attitude being expressed.
I suddenly feeling anxious and my plan for the morning had been ease and grace, doing my meditation, staying centered and calm and the opposite had been triggered and I had no screen in place.
Once again, God brought me to a challenge that was going to stretch my inner life skills to work through the feelings of fear and insecurity that came up when I read a few of my emails.
I realized that I was barely alert and I needed to be kind and accepting of myself where I was at, in the moment. Not that I should pamper myself and play out “poor me” scenarios. I was aware that I needed to be compassionate and conscious and I needed a healthy strategy to find a way to gently shift my gears.
I went for a short ride with my dog to Masters Market at Ananda Village and picked up one of my favorite breakfast sandwich and then went to share some extra fresh tomatoes I had with a friend. If we are too absorbed in our own suffering it is time to give more generously of ourselves. Switch out of self absorbstion and give my energy to help others. Giving of ourselves when we are moody, frustrated or upset is the best way to utilize our misdirected energy. Be generous with our lives and we simply can’t out-give God or the universe. With a loving and empowering attitude the energy will shift and change as you walk through the storm.
You really have something to contribute to the lives of others. Make this day one where you honor the potential that Spirit inspires in you. Whatever you can share from your heart and soul, makes a difference in the world. Anyone can feel overwhelmed with the suffering and poverty that we encounter these days. Even so, there is so much good that is within you and others that is worthy of expressing. You have something meaningful to share! It may be something simple or practical that is helpful to someone, or perhaps it is offering encouragement of someone who is not feeling as strong as they need to be today. Your selfless service is a blessing to others. Be generous with your love and kindness and that truly makes the world a better place. Know that You are Loved! Rev. Barb Walley
We have so many opportunities to “Practice the Presence” in our lives. Gratefully the world is awakening to these practices more and more each day. When I first heard the term of “Practicing the Presence” it awakened something in me that held the power and consciousness that keeps giving and grows and support the deepening of my daily spiritual practice a little more each day.
When I decided to move to a spiritual community five years ago, I made that decision so that I could be in an environment that is in a continuous practice through out my day. I invite you to join (Ananda Sanga Worldwide Community) in the practice of “Reawakening the consciousness of light and joy” by using the following technique: (whenever possible – try to do this in a quiet place- never in a moving vehicle) Stop, close your eyes, and bring your energy to the spiritual eye, at the point between the eyebrows. You may find it helpful to place your fingertip there to help you focus. Now become aware of light and joy at that point. Do this for at least fifteen seconds. This is a technique that Jyotish and Devi, the Spiritual Leaders from the Ananda World Wide Community sent out in their weekly letters. Join us in lifting up our consciousness five times a day, into the light and joy and make it another way that you can “Practice the Presence” through-out your day.
Do you know where your last thought came from? After many years of study I have come to believe that most of our thoughts and feelings are rooted in the subconscious mind. Everything that is hidden within us comes from the past, from our history in this life or a past life. All automatic thoughts, attitudes and related feelings are rooted in the subconscious mind. The ancient yogic teachings reveal that we bring many of our life patterns into this life, to overcome, to release, and to help us gain the lessons that those patterns reveal to us. They are all automatic behaviors, likes and dislikes, wants and don’t want.
If someone says something to you that pushes a button in you, you can guarantee it is coming from the subconscious. The conscious mind is not as reactive as the subconscious, that is endlessly repetitive and reveals itself in the reactive thoughts, attitudes and beliefs we have. When you feel triggered, do you ask… where did this come from? Why do I feel so bothered by this situation, whether a comment someone says, or a behavior they express, or any situation that comes up that you have a charge about. It is all coming up from the unconscious mind.
What I see from the patterns in my life, is that I have a reactive part of me that I want to eliminate so that I can live more freely. We are not really free if the least little thing can push us over the edge emotionally and trigger a whole lot of thoughts and feelings that disturb our well being in a nano-second.
Learning to respond instead of reacting is a huge leap into greater spiritual freedom. Our greatest growth comes from being more attuned to what is real and what is true. The Master Jesus reminds us that “the truth shall set you free.” Within that journey we will find greater joy and well being.
If you are having a challenging time, perhaps you are feeling down and don’t know where to turn, always remember that there is a very loving Source of Life that will lead you through it. When our hearts are stretched as far as we think it can and we cannot make any sense of the life we are living, the compassion and love of Spirit through our loved ones, will guide us to a safe landing.
This morning I listened to a very touching song that a group of children sang to their teacher who is dealing with cancer. They very passionately and lovingly sang this songs with their hearts open wide. It is on YouTube, and the song is… “I’m gonna love you through it.”
Someone very close to my heart is having a very tough time for the past year. I want to take her pain away and make sure that she lands safely on the other side of her sadness. When I heard the song that the children sang, “I’m gonna Love you Through It,” it was exactly how I am feeling. I will be a safe place for her when she needs me. I am going to love her through it.
When our emotions are so intense and we find that we cannot see the goodness and love that is in our lives, regardless of what else is going on, that is when we are so blessed to reach out to a power greater than ourselves. Our limitations are our own, and the tangled strings of thoughts and memories are plugging us into a pain body that is lodged in our hearts and brains and at the moment we cannot see past them.
There is a Way! There is a loving Presence that will help us beyond any of our thoughts or fears. We just have to reach out and take one step at a time. There is a Loving Presence that knows you better than you know yourself and you are never alone.
Having an open heart around our hidden resistance, helps us to gently approach the inner blocks to our greater good. Are you willing to get a handle on yourself and open up to your greatest potential? The benefit shows up in my life when I am willing to look into the mirror of my thoughts, attitudes and feeling and see what I am resisting and open up my heart and surrender to the growth that is most needed. I seek to create a coherent balance between my heart and my mind.
If we are ready and prepared for growth, we wouldn’t need the universe to “push us with pain,” because we would be willing to go where the resistance is. We are being guided by our higher selves that will keep us on the treadmill until we open up the doors within us that we have glued shut.
My greatest gift comes when I am being receptive to Spirit every moment I can. The divine shines the light of awareness and it is up to us to be open, flexible and willing.
In the silence of our own hearts, we can reach an inner peace as we face the places in ourselves that we still need to grow in. Be willing. It is so much easier to be open to the guidance that Spirit is always providing. All of our challenges are a call to our Higher Selves.
What are the polarizing energies that engage our thoughts, attitudes and well being that appears to pull us up to an uplifting mood or drags us in the opposite direction with attitudes that can cause us to come sliding down in an instant. The waves of energies we are experiencing on the planet right now can stir our most human emotions and disturb the best of even mindedness. Some may call this a Shadow Effect of the collective unconscious. Others may call it the “sub” of the subconscious. We all have it to various degrees and the universe is uprooting the delusion and denial of the unhealed parts of ourselves individually and collectively.
The Subconscious holds great wisdom and intelligence within us and has the power to bring up the best that is within us when it is positive, uplifting and harmonious. Hidden within the unconscious realm of the subconscious one will also find incongruous feelings, thoughts and attitudes that we have inherited, planted in previous life times, or in moments of individual and collective confusion, sadness and fear that have programmed mixed messages within us. The current popular name for these shadows of fear, separation and delusion of separateness from one another, our Source and our planet have changed over the centuries, but essentially they are rising to the surface to be healed now more than ever.
We are One. What shows up on one level is operating for all of us on one point or another. Healing the hidden frequencies of fear and separation is the clarion call of our times. No one is exempt from the inner surrendering calling us to an urgent appeal to do something to stretch beyond the patterns that imprison our highest selves.
So if we are to heed the call of a “world that works for everyone” we must pull out the hidden awareness that is screaming for us to pay attention and heal. We need to listen to our higher selves. We need to do something different than we have ever done. We must call forth the Divine that is within us to help us to rise above the enslaving past to a new day of great peace and joy.
It is possible. It is awaiting our willingness to call forth the seeds of greater peace and well being that is within us. Isn’t it time that we loosen the grip that is imprisoning us all. With the help of Spirit we will rise above the past and soar to a new level of harmony. I will be going more deeply into this subject in future posts.
